An Englishman abroad – Why bother learning the language?

An Englishman abroad – Why bother learning the language?

Learning Greek had never occurred to me. But now I understand why some people might go through the hardship of enrolling in a Greek course, hoping to speak Greek fluently one day… Like many of us, I suspect, I was taught French as a foreign language at school and not much else. Despite this I have enjoyed foreign holidays throughout my life, utilising my schoolboy French with enthusiasm on numerous trips to France, and making do elsewhere in the world with that distinctive didactic tone of voice often heard wherever you might encounter the British on holiday: slow firm diction, and the...

London Greek Lessons for British Cypriots

London based Cypriot Greeks often look for Greek language courses where they could learn Cypriot. The Greek lessons are usually run by Greek Centres and Greek Schools across the city, mostly in North London, where the major Greek Cypriot community is located. Not many courses however offer to teach the Cypriot dialect. We are aware of this and have in fact hired some excellent tutors who specialise in teaching Greek as well as Cypriot Greek, so if you are of Cypriot origin or just simply want to learn to speak Cypriot Greek, do get in touch and book your trial lesson...

If you are one of the students who believes you can learn a language whilst ignoring its script I must disappoint you. You can never really understand a language if you don’t feel confident to read and...

Learning Greek in London – evening courses or a private tutor?

Many Greek schools in London run weekend or evening courses- but does classroom based language tuition really work? No, in my opinion it doesn’t. Many students come to us after having first enrolled for a Greek course in one of the many Greek schools and language centres across London. They tried to learn the language in a classroom environment but failed. Why is that? Are you one of those students who feels frustrated after months or years of trying to learn Greek in evening classes, who has invested money and lots of time, and still doesn’t see any satisfactory results, if any at...

Private Greek lessons-Learn Greek fast

Posted on Jul 1, 2012

If you think about learning Greek fast and want to try a few private Greek lessons, you should chose your tutor very carefully. Since any one to one Greek lesson is based on a strong personal relationship between the student and the teacher, having a very good or just an OK tutor makes a considerable difference. Teaching Greek privately requires a great expertise and not any Greek tutor can do this to a high standard. Teaching Greek successfully doesn’t only require a good knowledge of the language itself but a talent and a special ability to transfer this knowledge onto the student.We...
